I’m fine (could mean incredibly NOT fine, or doing pretty darn well)
People in the United States typically place the responsibility of communication on the speaker instead of on the audience.
Instead of assuming the best possible intent (which is generally a good idea) from the speaker, we expect them to spell things out directly and wholly.
As speakers or communicators in business and life, we need to pay special attention to the words we use.
Words matter. They shape our expectations. And our expectations shape our culture.
